Cold Weather Essentials

Baby, it’s cold outside! Like REALLY cold. I’m the first to admit that I love the winter – the holidays, snow, and big cozy sweaters – what’s not to love? Well I can think of one thing, and it’s how bitterly cold it gets during these months. I’m been bundling up like Randy from A Christmas Story and at this point, I barely care about the fact I look like a walking marshmallow. My cold weather essentials usually stay pretty consistent, as you can usually find me in a big infinity scarf, gloves, and of course, my peacoat.

Infinity scarf // I’ve proclaimed my love for infinity scarves in the past and you can find me wrapped up in one almost everyday… the bulkier, the butter. So far, I’ve found the best at American Apparel, due to their assortment of colors and Gap has had some high quality knitted ones in the past. Regardless of where you find yours, a big, bulky infinity scarf is a must for this cold winter weather.

Layers // Layers are the most important part of keeping warm… I find that two layers usually does the trick for me and keeps me warm without looking too bulky. Opt for a thin thermal underneath of a cable knit sweater or perhaps a button-up for a preppier look. I personally love layers because I’m able to get creative by mixing and matching so I don’t repeat the same outfit too many times.

Outerwear // I’m a sucker for a good pair of mittens and gloves and I find the knitted style to be the warmest. I also really love earmuffs so my hair doesn’t become a static-y mess right before work but they do a good job of keeping my ears toasty warm. If you commute to work, opt for a pair that can play music by plugging them into your iPhone or iPod!

Footwear // Last, but not least are a great pair of thick wool socks and some boots to keep your feet warm and dry from harsh winter weather. I love Gap’s wool socks (they’re great quality and come in a ton of fun colors!) and a good pair of boots to keep the snow out.
